Last night my ds had such bad gas and was in so much pain. My aunt who's staying with me for a little while since I just got out of the hospital yesterday and there's no one here during the day to help me is a nurse and she asked me if I knew about how much milk he was getting so I decided to try and pump and see. Well come to find out I'm not even producing half an ounce on either side... And I've been nursing him since he was born... So She thinks from me not producing he was nursing really hard and swallowing air and hurt his stomach would make a lot of sense as to why he was so fussy and nursed really hard... So after almost an hour of burping he calmed down a lot and we mixed him a formula bottle and he drank that so fast like he was starving which i bet he was. So after I burped him he passed out and slept most of the night. I feel horrible about not being able I bf him, this entire experience from the beginning of the pregnancy to his birth nothing went as planned and I was so hoping that at least this would but that's my luck... But at least I know that my ds is getting his nutrience and has a full belly and not starving...

Hon, pump output means nothing!!! Many women don't respond to a pump. Typical output is .5-1.5 ounce per pumping session. Babies are far more efficient at getting milk than a pump! Diaper output is a great indicator of what your baby is getting. After the first week of life you want 6 wets a day or more. A wet is 3 tbsp of liquid and a poop counts as 2 wets. Babies are fussy for many reasons, over active letdown, gas, growth spurt, etc. I bet you produce fine.

Pump output isn't a good indicator as to how much milk you are producing you go by diaper count.

Oh and if you want to produce more, put baby to breast more. That's the best way to do it. Visit www.kellymom.com, that is a great breast feeding info site. You will learn alot! :)

Tell your aunt to keep nursing advice to herself! How old is baby? If you just got out of the hospital I'm gonna guess only a few days. Has baby pooped out the black tar stuff? Nurse when baby demands. Every time all the time. You milk may not have come in yet. If you want to breast feed stick with it a few more days. There is a light at the end on the tunnel. Baby could have had a belly ache from any number of things. Remember he is new and has never done the eating/ pooping thing before. It's a journey you will both go through together

Baby's belly is only the size of a marble. How much formula did he take? Shouldn't have been more than an oz.

These ladies already told you. Pumping output means nothing. I could pump 8-16oz in one setting no way was my newborn drinking that much. Other moms can't pump one drop but can breastfeed twins.

Put the formula in the trash. Put the bottles away and put baby to breast.

Baby is nursing frequently to bring in supply, completely normal and expected.

He wasn't really having wet diapers at all, and he was poopin the tarey stuff but that got to the point where it was almost none when he did go and we barely doing that. Grant it I wanted to breast feed but most women in my family couldn't either so it's not uncommon, all I can do is look at the nutrients before I buy formula and try and buy the best for him. The main reason I wanted him to bf was to bond yes but also to expand his mind and heighten the odds that his iq would be higher but I mean I graduated High school with a constant 3.8 gpa and was on honor roll since elementary school and when I was old enough I balanced school boces holding 2 jobs at one point and baby sitting. So I kno I held my own and so did his father so his odds in my opinion are high anyway, and I'll bond with him because he's my son he knows my voice better than another and almost instantly stops crying when I call him my little nudger( that's what I would call him when I talked to my belly the entire pregnancy). Though upset I'm coming to terms with it.
