Starving my baby

So, apparently I've been starving my baby.
I went to the GI specialist today because of low weight gain ( birth weight 7lb 4oz, lowest 6lb 12 oz, 6month 11lb 8oz ), and she told me that DD was malnourished.
She put her on some specialty formula, and told me I could comfort nurse once a day only. She has a weight check first thing Monday morning, and if she hasn't gained any weight she'll be admitted for failure to thrive.
Super bummed that I don't get to wean my way, and that it has gotten so drastic so fast. I've been supplementing for a while now, and it still hadn't made that much of a difference.
I must make water instead of milk!!

Other than weight, was she missing milestones? How was growth in height? Head circumference?

Was that a progressive gain of weight or did she gain and then stall or lose at any point?

DD#1 did not gain well, she would have been considered FTT if she had not been ahead on all milestones.

Her weight isn't that far off. If she was making enough diapers and meeting milestones and not losing any weight, she's not failure to thrive.
Can you give us all her weights?

She's meeting all milestones and getting longer. Normal head circumference for age.
BW 7 lb 4oz
Day4 6lb 12 oz
2 months 9lb 1oz
4 months 10lb 6oz
5months 10lb 15oz
6months 11lb 8oz

At least 6 diapers a day before supplementing.

Has she been checked for lip and tongue tie?? She gained excellent until around 4 months which is usually when your supply regulates and baby's with tongue ties will gain great at first and then drastically slow down.
She's definitely not failure to thrive and the fact that she was having plenty of diapers means she was getting more than enough milk from you. This is a baby problem, not a milk problem.

the look of the milk tells you nothing.

BW 7 lb 4oz
Day4 6lb 12 oz
2 months 9lb 1oz (2.5lbs about here--that's min for 2.5 months of growth)
4 months 10lb 6oz(1lb growth--minimum expected)
5months 10lb 15oz (9oz-add in the 1/2 lb from month two weight check--1lb as expected)
6months 11lb 8oz (9oz)

At least 6 diapers a day before supplementing.

While baby is a little short you want to see a minimum of 1lb per month AVERAGE! baby may pick up later. Also some babies gain in different areas and not necessarily always in girth. BM has more calories (get yours tested), but more importantly FIRE THAT DOCTOR!
