My son is a week old today and my boyfriends mom just stuck a binkie in his mouth. I've been exclusively breast feeding and do NOT want to switch to a bottle.
He's comforted by sucking on mommas pinky and (if he can find it) his own hand.
But I was wondering if it will cause nipple confusion? I'm more curious because this is the same women who told me to have him sleep on his belly /:
What do you think?

I've given my ds a pacifier since he was,a,week old. I knew when he was hungry or just wanted to have something. He's almost 5 months now and we're still ebf. If you don't want it then tell her you don't. It's your baby don't let anyone try to steer you away from what you want for YOUR child.

No artificial nipples until at least 6 weeks. Before that the comfort sucking at the breast is critical for both you and your baby. After 6 weeks it isn't as big of an issue but it can cause you some grief during growth spurts because baby comfort sucking at the breast stimulates supply. Binky free babies tend to be more willing to work on mom's supply whereas binky babes tend to want to comfort suck at the pacifier.

I waited 6 weeks just to make sure my supply was established and we had nursing down. By 4 months he was completely done with it! He hasn't taken anything but the breast since then:)
