I am going to be adopting my niece. She just turned 2 years old this month on the 12th. I have two other boys that i've "adopted". My older son i started to raise full time at 4 years old, but was a his part time parent since he was 3months. My younger son i took on full time at age 2.
Although i've always known that breastfeeding is best, i never once considered breastfeeding either of the boys, at any age.
Maybe it's because i'm pregnant that i want to breastfeed my niece? I've already asked this group about it, and most have said that i shouldn't attempt it until after the baby is born. Which is fine, of course. But for some reason I have a daily desire (usually when she's upset, she sucks her thumb too and i don't know if that also has something to do with how i feel) to nurse her.
I'm pregnant with my first, by the way, so i've never breastfed before.

You cant begin nursing while pregnant. Its unlikely she will properly.latch however, if she shows interest while youre breastfeeding newborn feel free to allow her to try.
I know. I've already asked about that in this group.
I was asking if i'm feeling this way because i'm pregnant. I've never felt this way before with the previous two kids i adopted.
I missed that post. Why can't she nurse while she's pregnant? I nursed several of my children during the entire pregnancy, so what would the difference be?

Because i'd be starting in the middle of a pregnancy. People are worried about it inducing early labor because my body isn't already used to those sensations and hormones.

I just thopught about that after I typed it lol. Makes sense.
There are many ways to comfort a child besides nursing, and its ok that she is sucking her thumb for comfort, just give lots of cuddes and kisses and affection :)

oh she's easy to comfort. I'm just trying to understand why i feel this way. My boyfriend thinks it's because i'm pregnant and i'm inclined to agree since i can't think of any other reason.
I realize few have been in my situation. But i guess i was kinda hoping someone would know how i feel. lol
My sister was in Michigan visiting our family after she had her second baby in March and she was watching our cousin's baby. My cousin and my sister are both breast feeding, but my cousin's baby won't take a bottle, so my sister breast feed her because she felt bad lol
Yep, I think your mothering hormones are kicking in! Lots of cuddling and rocking for your "new" DD :-)
