How often should an 8 month old be nursing?

She's nursing about 6 times in a 24 hour period (3-4 times/day & 2-3 times/night). Which is really strange for her since she looooves the boob juice. lol. I think it might be because she's too busy exploring to want to nurse. But I thought I'd ask anyway since she's my first baby that I've nursed this "long". :P
She doesn't get too many solids (we're doing BLW).. so, I'll give her stuff to "eat" during meal times, but most of it goes to the dog :P So, I know she's not filling up on that and she has a good amount of wet andpoopy diapers..

If dipes are good, she is getting enough. Don't over think it! ;-)

DD is 10 months and we are mostly doing BLW too (she's not eating much either).  She usually does 3-4 full nursing sessions during the day (15 minutes) but she snacks in between all those feedings.  I offer my breast very often and most time she will only nurse for a minute or two after I letdown.  However, she is up very often during the night - unfortunately she needs the boob to fall back asleep.  I would say she only ends up really eating 2-3 times.  Like pp said, if dipes are okay, don't worry about it!!!  They are hitting so many milestones at this age, I think it's very normal for them to be distracted during the day!  They just want to impress us with their new skills :)

My DS will be 8 months on the 6th. Same exact scenario with solids here, BLW so barely any solids and were taking it very slow with them. ( he does go nuts over applesauce lately, but fed to him by spoon) He nurses approximately 8 or 9 times during the day. He normally sleeps thru the night though. I say approximately because he nurses on demand so I don't actually count how often ?

Crazy right??!!! He's been sleeping thru the night (8 or 9 pm till about 5:30 or 6am) since 2 months!! It's crazy, with the exception of teething or the few times hes been sick or having a growth spurt. I used to have to set my alarm to wake him up to feed him!! Now my three year old....totally different story!! Didn't sleep thru the night consistently till 2 yrs old!!
But...he's not a big napper during the day. Usually only an hour or so once a day

My oldest was like that. . . . my younger 2 more than made up for it  :/  ds was waking every 2 hours on the nose until 1 yr, and then still 1-2 times until past 18 months.  dd2 is 15 months and wakes 2-3 times. . . . . I miss sleep.

1 mom liked this

As long as you're nursing fully before solids and his diaper count is good, no worries.

It doesn't scare me.. Scares DH though. I always have to remind him that it's part of the learning process :) Too much gagging could mean that baby isn't ready.. but dd only gags once in a while and is always able to bring it back to the front of her mouth on her own :) I make sure her food is cut correctly, no skins, nothing too hard, etc. Right now, we mainly do bananas, avocado, apple slices(noskin), oranges, steamed broccoli, steamed carrots, baked "fries"(just peeled potatoes cut into long cubes) and cheese. We also will give her little bites of what we're having (unless it's something like ice cream, chocolate, etc.) :P
