You're drying up because you should be done

That's what my mom said. I told her I'm having trouble pumping enough for DS's bottles at day care. She told me that I was probably drying up because I should be done BF him soon. He's almost 6 months. I told her that he should BF for at least a year, and she was like "a YEAR? Oh God!" We left the conversation at that. I'm dissappointed in my lack of support from my own mother.

Just my armpits, lol! We co sleep at night, I'll have to nap with DS, that sounds like a wonderful idea!

Quoting silka08:

When you take fenugreek do you smell like maple syrup?

Co sleep for a nap when youre around. Skin to skin works amazing!

Yes, and take that nap with both you and baby topless so you get the skin to skin.

Didja read the post?? Sheesh

Personally, I think you should breastfeed until the child is able to obtain nutrition by feeding himself.  If he can't hold a sippy cup and a fork, he's not ready to wean.  That's just the natural progression of things.

Do you hand express when pumping? Its a big deal once pumping is over to hand express a bit!

Also more milk plus works better than fenugreek

at 6 months dipes drop :) you only need 4 and breastfed babies don't gain as fast after 6 monthes eaither so don't worry to much as long as she is meeting milestones.

My mother isn't supportive of my BFing either. Hence, we don't even discuss it, honestly. It'll only make me seem like a hippie to her.

My DD is also almost 6 months and it seems like I have less supply also. Less diapers, less IN the diapers, yet her nursing habits haven't changed. Not sure what's up with that. Never taken anything like Fenugreek or teas, etc, and I'm hoping I don't have to. I hope its just a growth spurt or her trying to master a milestone cause it doesn't seem like she's gaining.

ANY amount of breastmilk you are able to give your guy is going to benefit him. I took care of a little boy in daycare whose mom had the same problem. But in a daycare setting especially, ANY breastmilk you can provide will help keep him healthier than he would be without it. I got very sick weighing only 90 pounds after I had my little boy and my supply was waning and he was continually losing weight at 6 months. I supplemented a little formula to give along with whatever I could give him from my breast and he did better and stayed healthier than most children. Don't give up. It is a challenge, but our bodies are amazing and our little ones are worth it! The World Health Organization even says that nursing is beneficial til at least 2 years and recommends nursing that long. The AAP has not quite caught up with their scientific findings and suggests a year still. In your mother's time 6 months was the recommendation and she may not know that it has changed based on new findings.

One more thing. If your baby's brain growth is continuing to climb at a healthy rate then you can be assured he is fine. This growth is most important of all. If you are concerned about nutritional deficency have the doctor do a heel or finger prick to test the level of iron. Iron is the first nutrient to decline in a child who is malnourished  before all other nutrient levels decline. If this level is in the normal range then you will know that all the other vitamins and minerals are also at a healthy level in his body. All children grow at a different pace. Don't be too concerned about weight. Once they hit 15-18 months their rate of growth slows way down and they don't require as many calories to maintain their weight as at 6 months when they begin to be very active and their rate of growth is at a very fast pace.
