Suck training?

I came across this in someone else's post and asked what it was but got no reply. Does anyone know what this is and how to do it? I think it might help out my 3 week old son a lot.
And another question I have.. What does it mean when someone says "bump" on one of your posts?

bump makes the post bump up to the top again so ppl wont miss it.. most ppl never go past the first page and each reply on a post makes the post go back up to the top of the thread... idk about suck trainning still prego but excited to reread this and find out!

That's what the lactation consultants called it when my son was born and was having trouble nursing. I would put my pinky in his mouth to trigger the sucking reflex and then offer the boob so he would realize he needed to suck on that.

Bumping a post puts it back on the top of the list, so hopefully more people will see it.

Hope that helps[=

Suck training is a way to teach baby better latching. Lots of info here: http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/wean-shield/

For us, suck training meant letting baby suck on dad's thumb while dad pushed his tongue down. It taught him not to push the nipple out. I thought I did answer your question on that other post?

Can you be more specific about your problem? We may have some help beyond suck training.

A "bump" moves your post to the top of the forum. In this group, we ask that you NOT bump posts if they're less than an hour old. The mods check unanswered posts first, and bumps appear in the answer count. And then we work back from the oldest posts since our last visit. So a bump is sorta like hanging up the phone when you're on hold with the power company.

In *this* group you want to be OFF the first page. I know I don't even look at it. I look for zero-answer posts, then go back pages till I see no more pink "new" graphics and then start reading backwards up the list... oldest posts have been on "hold" longest, so to speak.

Let your posts age like a fine wine here. Bump if you haven't had an answer in an hour. And if you need immediate assistance, message a mod. You can usualy find one of us till about midnight Pacific time.

My LC did tell me to do that. I didn't know that was suck training. And if you did answer on the other post i apologize, I didn't see it. I won't bump I just didn't know what it was lol
My son just let's go a lot. I use a nipple shield and sometimes it takes him forever to start sucking. When I do try without the shield, he will latch and let go, latch, let go, and then he just won't wana latch again. I think he get frustrated. Also I feel like he is "chomping" more than sucking when he is latched.

Typical nursing is more like "chomping" then sucking. Baby doesn't suck. Baby compresses the nipple with his jaw, and milk squirts out. He's not sucking it out.

Everything you describe is normal. Latching and letting go is fine; that's how he builds your supply. Evenutally he will latch and stay on, but you're still a few weeks early for that.

You can dump the shield. And carry on. No messing with anything; you're good!
