My son is 19 months old and likes to nurse at night every 2 hours til about 5 or 6 when he sleeps for a nice 4 hour stretch. I was accomodating him. The problem is, his teeth are being affected now and the dr. said he is physically able to sleep through the night without eating. I am concerned about his teeth. I've started nursing at bedtime and then brushing his teeth after, and am trying to cut out the night feedings. My questions are:
1. Do you all think I should??? Or should I just up the toothbrushing and hope that takes care of it? I wasn't able to actually brush his teeth very well prior to this, he would let me get one good swipe in and that was it. So now I am being firm about brushing every tooth good and thoroughly. And we are going to the dentist on Wednesday to find out exactly what is going on.
2. If I do need to night wean him, HOW do I go about doing so? I have read about timing the nursing sessions and nursing a few less minutes every time, until they are used to just getting snuggled for a minute or two when they wake up... is that how it's done?
Any personal experiences that could help me would be appreciated!
