Had a wic appointment today and they tried to tell me that my ds is not growing properly. He just turned one on Monday and he weighs 20 lbs 5oz and is 27 1/2 inches long. His doctor says that he looks fine and is growing just fine. I think hes good as well. How much did your LO weigh at this age?

Ds-18lbs
Dd1-16lb
Wic only looks at the charts, they are known to give very poor advice!
I overheard them cautioning a mother that her son was on the shorter side and she needs to be giving him more foods. To make him taller?!?
Another mom was being scolded for her child gaining 3lbs in 6 months. They told her not to give him any more yogurt*smh*

DS was around 24lbs at that age but was FF. WIC doesn't have doctors on staff and it seems like much of the time they don't totally know what they're talking about, even if they mean well. You know your baby and your doctor knows his history. Take WIC's info with a grain of salt.

I don't think they should be allowed to scold women the way they do about how their children grow.

Just ignore them...they have to say and do certain things to keep their jobs. When I was pregnant they kept bugging me about drinking milk. I have never liked milk and don't drink it but I told them I did to shut them up lol.

My dd is eight months and 21.5lbs and 28.5 inches. She doesn't really eat solids and only gets breastmilk otherwise.

If your pedi is happy, I wouldn't worry about your LO's size.

My ds is 14 months. He weighs 21 lbs. and is 28 inches. He sounds fine to me! WIC is famous for saying stuff like that. Listen to your doctor.

If DS pedi says he is growing fine...I wouldn't worry too much about what they tell you at WIC.  I learned that one the hard way....they (WIC) told me that my oldest DD was below in height and weight....told me she "obviously isn't getting all the nutrition she needs.  She EVEN looks malnourished."  This sent me into what I not so affectionately call "freak mode".  I thought, "Really, she looks THAT bad...I mean I know she is tiny...the doctor says she's fine....but what if she's not?....what if there is something wrong with her?...what if?....what if?....it was pure madness.   I took her to a specialist, had a complete blood work up done....they tested all her nutritional levels....and more or less told me I was being paranoid, that she was fine....that she was just small.  Well....DUH?  I'm only 5'....so why wouldn't she be small?   Anyway....WIC has guidelines....that is pretty much it...some babies simply just do not fit with in these guidelines....but that doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with them.
