My baby fell off the bed:( *update*

I've been co-sleeping with my almost 9 month old since day one and it has been great and much easier since I'm nursing him and he still nurses at night. Last night my worst nightmare came true and I was awoken by a loud thump and my baby screaming on the floor, he must've rolled off the bed. He ended up being fine, but I'm so scared to let him sleep in bed now. Our bed is a king size and is pretty high. I thought about putting the mattress on the floor but our bed is so heavy and difficult to take apart and hubby is gone for the week so I can't do it myself. I would love for him to sleep in his own bed but he will just scream and refuses to sleep on his own and I feel terrible to let him cry, not to mention he wakes up my 3 yr old in the next room and then I have two babies cry in the middle of the night. I put him in his playpen after the incident and he slept for maybe 30 minutes and after that he wouldn't sleep in there anymore. I really need some help on what I should do. I can't have him fall off the bed again and till I figure something out I won't be getting any sleep. Any advice also to get him to sleep in his own bed without letting him scream at night? I really feel like the worst mom ever:(

Update- so I have a temporary fix since I haven't been able to get a bed rail or side car the crib. I will try to add a pic, but what I did was put the swim noodle and a big body pillow under two fitted sheets and I also put the play pen with pillows in it and a comforter right by my bed in case he actually manages to roll over the noodle and body pillow which I doubt. Oh, and he isn't crawling yet for those that said he could've crawled off. Does this sound good enough for a few night till dh comes home and he will side car the crib? Picture should be in reply. Thanks ladies:)

Can you run to Walmart and get safety rails?

I would put bed rails. Also I would push your bed against the wall and sleep near the edge and let him sleep near the wall and put rails on the end so he doesn't crawl backwards off the bed.

Will they attach to a king size bed? Are they difficult to install?

Do you have the bad against the wall? If so, put him on the inside. Or put a pool noodle under th fitted sheet on his side, believe it or not he won't roll over Ot in his sleep

The ones I use fit my queen and adjust under the mattress. I think they would fit a king. My bed is a queen

Have you considered a "side car" arrangement?  Take the crib side off one side, push it up against the bed.  He sleep on his crib mattress, but it's still like being in bed wiith you.  Hard to explain, let me find some pics...

dont feel bad, you arent a bad mom. i would either get bed rails or what i do is my bed has one side pressed against the wall and i sleep on the open side and if i switch breasts and sides i put a pillow behind him so he cant roll off.

I know what you are talking about. The only issue is that there isn't much room for his bed and I'm worried he could fall in between my mattress and his and suffocate or something. I'm super paranoid and also lately when I put him in his crib he gets his arms stuck and I'm scared to use bumpers due to suffocation hazards.
