You can very well ovulate while breastfeeding.  I got pregnant while breastfeeding.

You definitely can ovulate while breastfeeding.

For some women they can use LAM (breastfeeding as birth control) but there are rules for it. Baby can have no bottles or pacifiers, cosleeping/babywearing preferred, no more than 4hrs at night w/o nursing and no more than 3hrs during day, no period, baby gets no food other than breastmilk, nursing on demand, etc.

I got the IUD because the minipill dries my milk. I went with Paraguard.

Love it.

Easy insertion after you have given birth.

Experts say if you dont go longer than 4hrs between feedings during your waking hours and no longer than 6hrs between feedings during your sleeping hours than you wont have a period/ovulate. But there will always be exceptions. If you are positive you dont want another baby then you should be on birth control

Lactational Amenorhhea Method. http://www.lalecheleague.org/ba/aug93.html aka "breastfeeding as birth control" -- comes with a lot of rules. :)

I know 2 women who went to their 6wk PP appointment and had been pregnant.  They thought b/c they were EBF (no bottles and no pacifiers) that they couldn't get pregnant.  You STILL ovulate!

I had the Paraguard put in and will get another one in 2wks.  It was GREAT for me!  And it has no hormones to mess up your body.

The only ones I know of is if its improperly placed and you can get an eptopic pregnancy.  But as far as hormonal side effects there are none.  I loved it!!!  It was like I was on nothing at all!

you can still get pregnant, you can even ovulate without a period, so no breastfeeding should never be used as a birthcontrol.

I have paragard and have since March, the only thing is it can trigger your period to start and for the first 6 months you might have way heavier and longer periods then normal.

I started ovulating 4 months after birth and still breastfeed! Don't forget condoms :-)
