Hell yes!!! I'm about to give birth to my "Irish Twin" (I have a daughter that just turned one.) You drop your egg way before you get your period...and since you never know when this will happen, better safe than sorry!
It is very uncommon to get pregnant before 6 months w/o first having a cycle, but it is not impossible. In the first 6-12 months it is common for mom to have a cycle w/o ovulating, often called a "warning menses". The older the baby, the more common that you will ovulate w/o warning.
