Nursing and cocktails

My doctor says 2-3 beers OR up to 4 oz of liquor are OK when nursing. Just to wait 8 hours after you drink to nurse. My son was born oct 8 and Halloween we drank so I pumped And dumped next morning. Does anyone else enjoys drink while nursing? What's your personal limits and existences? PS I am aware of the effects of alcohol- not looking for a lecture or to be bashed here. Thx:)

You don't need to wait 8 hrs, you just need to wait until you are sober.

If you are having one drink, a couple of times a week (wine with dinner sort of thing), just keep nursing as usual. If you have more than that, just wait until you are sober before you nurse.

Safe to drive, safe to nurse.

Safe to drive, safe to nurse. I think it's 2% of the alcohol that enters your milk. Please correct me if I am wrong. But I have sipped a beer while nursing. I've had a shot or two and been fine to nurse. I've never pumped and dumped. Once the alcohol is out of your system, its out of your milk, I believe.

I usually give myself an hour per drink. But honestly since I've had kids I've turned into such a light weight that after maybe 2 I'm done. DH and I go out every so often for wing night (when I can get someone to watch all 3) and I have 1 drink. We are usually gone for 2-3 hours and as soon as we walk in the front door I nurse.

As long as you would be safe to drive you would be safe to nurse.

I had about 3.5 glasses of wine in a 5 hr period on girls night... Because I'm such a light weight I felt hungover and was unsure if I should nurse.

You feel "hungover" because you are dehydrated (mostly). You are sober, which means the alcohol is metabolized/gone, but you just feel like crap.
