Hello there! I'm Liz, and have two boulders on my chest. Ouch! My daughter is 3 days old and my milk has come in with a vengeance! I am so engorged I don't know what to do anymore. She nurses but doesnt fully emptu me out so I pump because I hurt so much. I had mastitis with my 4 year old so I'm so paranoid that I'm gonna get. it again. I also have strong sharp pains in both breasts. I have a hot pack on both breasts but i dont know what else to do. Help!! s

You're doing the right things. Continue them. Only pump enough for bare relief; more than that extends the engorgement.

Am I more at risk at getting mastitis since I've had it before? And do I continue with the hot packs? Or should it be for little spurts at a time?

Some of the pain from engorgement is due to swelling in your breasts.  Alternating ice with heat will help, as will taking ibuprofen.

when you nurse on one side only for a few sessions. It slows down supply, and helps baby get he hind fatty milk.
