I'm posting for a friend. She had her baby on Monday and baby weighed 8 lbs something. Evidently the baby's blood sugar was very low (ummm because she bathed the baby immediately...duh) and then baby apparently wluldnt eat. They gave her formula. Checked her bs and it went up slightly. I told my friend to nurse nurse nurse and she did and bs went up even more, enough to leave the hospital. Well on day 2, drs said she lost 11% birth weight and would need to b hospitalized unless she supplemented (via tube supplement ) with formula.......
I've told her the scale isn't valid to check the weight because it wasn't same scale. Also drs tell everyone this, including mine when I had my son. I didn't listen and sure enough he was back to bw by a week and two days. So is formula even necessary or am I giving bad advice?

Was it a csection? Did mom have alot of fluids?
Different scales can't be compaired.
How many dipes is baby having? How many poops a day?
Any jaundice? How often is baby eating? (on demand or scheduled?)

Scheduled induction. Super super easy labor. Got epidural. No tearing. Baby has 6-8 diapers. And has been pooping. No jaundice. And semi scheduled feedings ( because she listened to nurses who said every 3-4 hrs instead of at LEAST every two which I told her.)

1 mom liked this
Shes got to stop scheduling them! Baby feeds on demand. I would offer every 2 if baby hasn't eaten only because baby is still under birth weight.
I find it ironic that mom is contemplating formula feeding while limiting bm.
Either way mom should expect baby to be 4oz more then todays weight in 1 week

Have her keep nursing lots an see if the baby is gaining in a few days if yes then no. My daughter lost 9% an didn't hit her birh weight of 5lbs 15 oz lol till 2wka 3 days. Some babies gain slower then others

Before giving formula you should first see does baby just need to nurse more frequently? Next is pump and supplement with moms milk. Only if they can't get enough of moms milk should they use formula.

Your advice is perfect, her medical professionals are dangerous, and formula is NOT needed here.
