Roughing up nipples while pregnant?

I heard this from an older woman whose kid is grown now.  I thought this was considered bad advice now.  Did/does anyone do it?  I kinda cringed when she told me it lol.   But if it would actually help I'll try it.

Lol I don't even know what my face looked like when she said it.  But I swear I've read it somewhere else (but I think as obsolete advice!)

Bad advice, you can stimulate early labor. Don't do it.

No!! It won't work anyway. Your nipples will become accustomed to breastfeeding. It's not something that will happen overnight. It takes time and patience. Lots of patience. You doing it yourself will only cause you lots of pain.

Yep, it's a myth that definitely out there. I wouldn't be surprised if there were doctors & nurses still telling patients to do this :-\

1 mom liked this

Your cringe was right on!

You can count this as one of the first times you listened to your mothering instinct or mother's gut instead of an older woman :-)

When you have that same reaction when they tell you to do X with your baby, you'll know just what to do!
