having issues

Ds is 4 days old and his poop has decreased in size. I change his diapers before every feeding and through out the day as necessary. His poo is about the size of a dime now. He is also falling asleep shortly after starting to nurse. He was nursing for 15 minutes per breast per session. Now he is nursing 10 minutes on one breast per session. I do try to keep him awake for feedings. He is only doing this during the day as he is cluster feeding at night. I really don't think he is empting me completely during the day. Will I need to start pumping? Any advice is appreciated.

No, you don't need to start pumping. Baby will never completely empty you, as nursing is a supply and demand process. He is likely eating less in the day due to cluster feeding, completely. normal and no cause for concern. He is only 4 days old so he should be having 4-5 dipes today, any more than that is golden!

How many pee diapers in a day? Everything sounds okay.

He had about 3 or 4 pee diapers in the last 24 hours.

Thanks for the reply. We have been going through diapers like crazy. He has had 3 or 4 wet diapers and 6 poo diapers in the last 24 hours.

Well then, you're doing awesomely and he is getting plenty! :-) For future reference babies need to have 1 dirty diaper per day of life in the first week and 6-8 diapers thereafter, poopy diapers count as 2. What goes in nust come out, obviously he's taking a lot in ;-) Keep up the good work mama!

Sounds like the meconium has passed. We look for the equivalent of two quarter sized poops per day, so if you're getting a few dime-sized ones then you're good.
