'Breastfeeding Myths Debunked' - Bottles increase in size as baby gets older

Today we are debunking the myth that bottles must increase in size as baby gets older.

Breatmilk changes with the needs of baby. Larger bottles are not needed.

Breastfed babies should receive between 1-1.25 oz/per hour away from mom. Bottle should not be larger than 3 oz. at a time. It is recommended that baby be burped after each ounce and the nipple be slow flow.

Have you bought into this myth? Does your baby get breastmilk in a bottle?

I saw this yesterday a lady posted about it. And honestly I had no idea what you did because I don't give my LO bottles :) but it is good to know!

I did buy into it, DS started with 3.5 oz bottles and "graduated" to 5 oz bottles, but luckily I had an oversupply and was able to keep up. I know better for next time :-)

Yes, totally bought into it. But only because my little guy was so frustrated and I wasn't producing enough (I think from a surgical procedure I had 10 years ago on my breasts because with my first prior to surgery they were engorged but I never felt that again). My kid still gets 9 oz a day of raw milk now that he's 1 1/2 and I'm pregnant so can't beastfeed (it was draining me of all my energy and I was afraid he would steal nutrients my baby needed). Wonder if that is a myth too...

Hmm... I had no idea.. Is this only for BFing moms because I have seen formula fed babies gulp down 6-8oz easily?

I haven't had this come up yet but little man is only 3 months and just fine with 3 oz bottles on the rare occasion he gets a bottle. My older 2 were formula fed so there was a different set of rules. Good to know for the future.
