'Breastfeeding Myths Debunked' - Breasts need time to refill

Today we're debunking the myth that breasts need time to refill.

This is indeed false. Breasts are constantly making milk. Research shows that the emptier the breast, the quicker the breast produces milk.

If you make baby wait to nurse thinking that your breast needs time to refill, you are actually hurting your milk supply instead of helping it. You are telling your breast that it doesn't need to produce as much milk because baby doesn't need what is already there.

Think about a fountain and how the water in a fountain never stops, it's continuous. That is how your milk supply is.

Have you heard this myth before? Did you believe it was true? Do you have anything to add to this?

Yes, I still hear this all the time especially from new nursing mothers! No, I didn't believe it. I could always fill that they weren't empty because my let down is so strong. He would cry even when not being hungry and bam, boob pain.

I hated people telling me I couldn't pump before I fed dd of I was "stealing" milk from her feeding! I used to pump first thing in the am cuz I could get the most then she would wake up and eat 10 min later. Definitely not stealing from her!

I had heard it and believed it lol. Figured out it couldn't be true with how much he nurses and then I saw someone say here it wasn't. I actually read somewhere that over time your breasts produce milk as baby is nursing instead of when he's not. Hope that makes sense.
