Will not clipping lip or tongue ties cause problems for baby later on?

This is my 3rd child, and I had never heard of them until now.

It can. My mom had a tongue tie that wasn't clipped until like 2nd grade and she had speech issues and had speech therapy because of it.

It doesn't ALWAYS cause issues, but it can!

How does it cause tooth decay?

My youngest sister had a lip tie and my mom never realized it until the Dentist clipped it when she was a teen ager.  I prevented an extra top tooth from coming through the gum, causing a space between her 2 front teeth.  To this day she still has a tooth up in her gum as she refuses to let the oral surgeon remove it.

Because when you eat your tongue helps move the food to the back of your mouth. If your tongue cannot move freely then the food just sits against your teeth. DS1 is starting to see a dentist that wants us to get his clipped ASAP because I didn't know about TT until I had DD.

My daughter has a lip tie. She may have to have braces when she is older because of it. She probably will anyway unless her jaw straightens out significantly because she has a bad underbite. But she is still very young so I am hoping both problems resolve without braces!

Tongue tie can be a big deal.

As other posters have mentioned, it can cause speech problems and dental decay.  Also, a tongue tie is somewhat associated with certain types of feeding difficulties and texture adversions, even in adults who were never clipped.

You should bear in mind that the younger a baby is clipped, the better.  By four to six months of age, babies have to be sedated for the procedure.
