Sick toddler...

My 20 month old has tonsillitis, and doctor prescribed amoxicillin and Robitussin, he also said lots of fluid, and to keep him hungry so he'll take more fluids. I told him DS was nursing, and he said less time at the breast so he'll drink more water. I thought breast milk was considered a clear fluid, soo... I was planning to ignore that. Unless I'm wrong.

Also, I'm not too keen on the Robitussin, any alternate cough remedies?

TIA

You are correct. Giving him breastmilk is the best thing for him. I would NOT give him cough syrup at all and am very surprised the dr told you to. Suppressing the cough isn't what you want to do because that can very quickly cause pneumonia in small children.

Children under two aren't supposed to get cough medicine at all and I would actually recommend less water and other beverages and more breastmilk.
I don't know anything about the tonsils though, so I'm no help there.

The only thing he has really been interested in is nursing, and ice water.

That's a good thing then. Both will help maintain his temp.

I agree! NURSE, NURSE, NURSE and no cough syrup! Good luck, hope he's better soon!

Yep. Keep nursing and skip the cough medicine. Good luck! I hope he's feeling better.
