At my daughter's 4 month well child check she was 10 pounds. She hadn't gained any weight in a month. (She was 6 lbs 15 oz at birth, 9 pounds at 2 months, 10 pounds at 3 months.) She couldn't latch on AT ALL. We were using a nipple shield, and it took her an hour to eat every feed. I would try everyday to get her to latch on without the shield, but it hurt and she would just unlatch after 10 seconds.
Anyway, at her 4 month well child check I mentioned that I thought she had a tongue tie. Doctor couldn't tell and sent us to an ENT. ENT said she had a minor one, and clipping it wouldn't really help. I insisted she clip it.
That was 4 weeks ago.
My daughter went from using a shield to now latching perfectly without one.
Went from hour+ long feeds to them now being 7-10 minutes long.
AND she went from being 24.5 inches long/10 pounds to being 26 inches/12 pounds. IN 4 WEEKS!
I am so excited, but sad to think the poor thing was probably staving. :( I'm so glad that I followed my mommy instincts!
Thanks for listening! Lol.
