Biting

She is 1 yr old. She has 5 teeth and has started biting me. If I say no and take her off the breast she gets very mad and upset crying. Then when we try again she bites again. I want to continue breastfeeding her but this biting is painful. I only breastfeed her at night when she is sleepy. Any ideas in what I can do?

When she bites the second time, end the feeding, put her to bed and ignore her. This is a time when it's okay to ignore the crying.

Biting most often occurs when there is teething pain. Treat that about a half hour before bedtime.

Look in our FAQ section for a post called "When Babies Attack" for a full explanation of nursing manners.
