my SIL is pregnant and due in Jan. she had a great start to pregnancy, not feeling sick at all. well about 2-3 months ago she started getting sick. her mom was talking to us and said that melissa is losing weight. i thought after the first trimester losing weight was unhealthy for you and the baby!! she has no insurance and hasn't been to the doctor until 2 days ago when they just confirmed her pregnancy and said they think she is due in jan. melissa doesn't have ANY experience with pregnancy or kids (mine was the first baby she has really held) and she hasn't come to me to talk at all.. we are not very close, so I feel weird telling her my opinions and stuff I went through. should her weightloss be a concern i should tell her brother or mom to talk to her about?

First..have her go get Medicaid. Now I know this depends on the state but you can usually get the Medicaid insurance portion of it without problem when you are pregnant. They don't really care what income you have. I even HAD insurance and still got it . She really should be routinely seeing a doc and would hate for her not to because of the expense. Secondly I don't think the weightloss necessarily means there is a problem, after all she has been getting sick lately but again I would definatly advise her to see the doc on that. Hope everything turns out well!

I lost weight with both my pregnancies but I ended up getting gestional diabetes and following the diet caused me to lose weight. I know that in most states women can get insurance while pregnant and her doctor should help her. Have her mother take her to the doctor asap because something may be wrong.

I was very sick with both my pregnancies. I lost 17 lbs w/ the 1st and 14 w/ the 2nd. I had hyperemesis. It is a condition that causes you the have sever vomiting all day. I did go on meds- zofran. It is the same meds the use for chemotherapy patience. I was on Med assistance and they paid for the drugs- they are very expensive 25$ per pill. My dr assured me that baby was fine, baby gets the nutrients 1st then you. I hope this helps. Have her look into medical assistance. We are in Wisconsin, they have a amazing program. Good luck
