I'm new to this group I want to start canning but I have little to no money.  I don't know where to get the canning supplies for cheap.  There is a really, really cheap fruits and veg shop here.  I want to be able to stock up and can it all.  I also want to make sauces and things like that.

Any hints?  Thanks!

Start by asking on freecycle.  If you aren't familiar with it, there are local groups across the nation.  The condition is that it has to be free.  If you have stuff to get rid of, post an offer.  If you need something, post a want!  I have gotten and given LOTS of good stuff thru there!  The other place is craigslist.  I replaced some of my canning supplies thru craigslist.

Go and buy a Ball Blue Book....this will be your Canning Bible for the next couple years.  As far as jars go, I don't like to advocate WM, but they now have a store brand of canning jars!  They are a good $2-3 cheaper per flat...that savings adds up.  As for recipes, start simple and work your way up!  Good Luck!

Thanks!  This store has such cheap and actually good fruits and vegs.  But we can't buy in bulk because it's only three of us.  We buy fruit and it just goes to waste.  I'll look into the free cycle thing.  I have some things to offer up any way.

Also forgot to add that the Ball Blue Book will have ALLLLLLL the recipes you'll need for the first couple years!  It's chock full of goodness!  Happy Canning!  Welcome to the group!
