Not at all! There are refrierator pickle recipes that turn out pretty darn good, as well as my favorite old-fashioned "crock" pickles that ferent in a barrel or large jar. These are the old-fashion big dill pickles you would find in the butcher department of my local town grocer many years ago. They take a lot longer but the results are worth the wait!
