Isabel will be in kindergarden in the fall and will be riding the daycare van to school.  I asked if a booster seat was required and was told that it wasn't.  She's only 37lbs.  I'm going to get her a seat to use in the van.  Anyone else in this situation?

I would check I believe most day care vans have seat belts....and might have rules about it.....DD (5)went with her day care on a field trip and they didn't ask for booster seats for the bus ride

it just depends on the day care. but i wouldnt be comfortable with a 37 lbs child in a booster anyways. you would think if its just a van they would have to follow state laws on car seats. In missouri you have to be 4 yrs old and 40 lbs to be in a booster. My almost 7 yr old son is only 39 lbs so hes not in a booster yet

In my case, I would tell them since the LAW states she has to be 40lbs to be out of a car seat that at the very least a booster is required. However, perhaps there was an error in communication and they meant that they provide a booster?  Then again, maybe the law for school transport is different since 5 year olds ride busses with no seat belts?

Some states have exemptions for 15 passenger vans and busses. Also if all they have is lap belts, they couldn't use the booster anyway. One of the many reasons I will be driving my kids everywhere until third or fourth grade.

DD is 31 lbs and was in preschool this year and rode a little bus this year and they had the option of letting you install a carseat but I didnt do it. Maybe next year when she is on the big bus!

The pp has a good point...you can't use boosters without a shoulder type seat belt. The van might only have lap belts.

Is it an actual van or a small bus?
Here daycares aren't allowed to use vans and the vehicles they use are considered the same as a school bus and don't have seat belts usually so they don't require car seats or boosters.
