Has anyone seen this show? I just watched the Lisa Kudro one and it was so touching. She went looking for some family who was murdered in the holocost and actually was able to track down some family members that her father hadn't seen in 60 years.
The show itself is way better than I thought it would be. It's interesting to see these celebrities from a completely different perspective.

I love this show! I saw the first one, with Emmet Smith, but haven't seen Lisa Kudrow's yet(I dvr'd it). It is a very moving and touching show. It makes me want to do some searching into my geneology. The DNA mapping they can do is really incredible!
I saw the first one with Sarah Jessica Parker having family ties to the witches of Salem.. it was really cool and touching, I loved it. But I missed the Emmit Smith one and the Lisa Kudrow one last night cause it was on at 1am cause of basketball.. but i did DVR it so i will watch it later.
I forgot to mention that my grandpa (moms side) was really into geneology and has all the records of our family, but he passed away a few years ago so I need to go to my grandma and get all the info to fill in my own family tree to help find out more on my dads side. We have very german family and there is a town in Germany with our last name, so im really curious about that too. ..
I have not missed an episode yet. I am addicted. I have some cousins that are geneologists and have found some interesting history in my family.
I have a great-great-great uncle that died at the end of the Civil War. We are from Tennessee, but he fought for the North, along with others from TN. He was captured and a POW for almost a year. At the end of the war, he was transferred to somewhere close to the Mississippi River in Mississippi to be shipped by boat to Ohio, where he was to be released. The steamboat he was on had a capacity of 378. They crammed over 2000 soldiers on it, of course, the boilers exploded and MANY died. I think only 500-700 survived. Sadly, my 3rd great uncle was one that lost his life. If you want to know more about this, which I had never heard about in History classes in school, please google Sultana Steamboat. You can read all about it. It happened April 27, 1865.
Its a very good show!! I caught the highlights on Oprah then watched full episodes on NBC's website. It IS addicting!! My mom & I had started working on our family tree & ran across some roadblocks & we've been stuck ever since. African-American geneaology is a bit more challenging than other ethnic groups,...because of slavery, family members were sold, split up, etc. I would LOVE to be able to do do DNA mapping but it is so expensive!! Anyway, I love the show & I wish I had DVR so I could watch it whenever! Maybe they will show other episodes online?
