KATY PERRY DOES HER PATRIOTIC DUTY

Katy Perry is single and ready to mingle! What better way to celebrate her new single status than by snuggling up to sexy soldiers during NYC Fleet Week.

Katy Perry is all about honoring her country this Memorial Day, except she's not putting flowers on veterans' graves or anything like that. Instead, the "Teenage Dream" singer took over New York City's Fleet Week to perform for the sailors docked in the city.

The singer, 25, performed for the troops at Pier 9 in Brooklyn in a sexy American flag outfit as part of the Pepsi-sponsored Fleet Week series of concerts.

"I think if anyone deserves a party, I think it's probably the people in service. They are the ones that are actually deployed and protecting us from all the bad guys, and they deserve to celebrate, and they deserve to be celebrated," Perry told MTV News before the show.

"I've always heard about Fleet Week in New York; I've never been a part of it. It's really exciting to see a lot of seamen in white, but they all look gorgeous. It's kind of vintage-y feeling and really patriotic, and I love a theme. So, it's really cool to be a part of this and be entertaining for them. I think that it's appropriate to go out there in a little dress, and they're all in uniform."

The singer is single again after breaking up with Florence + The Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd a couple of weeks ago. She wasn't without some PDA for long, though: She chose a Marine to come on stage to recreate the iconic kiss photo taken during World War II in Times Square — and the lucky lad was more than happy to oblige.

"I'm sure that they all have cabin fever, so I'm going to bring the one that has the most cabin fever onstage," Perry joked. "I have cabin fever, for crying out loud!"
