A new trailer for Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful" is out, and it packs a lot of new footage and plot details into its two and a half minutes.
Whereas the first trailer was all about the visuals in Sam Raimi's film, the new one gives a much bigger taste of the story: Side-show magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) lands in Oz after being swept away by a tornado, where he meets three witches: Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), all of whom hope he's the great wizard sent to vanquish the Wicked Witch.
"Hope" being the key word here. The witches are also a bit skeptical of Oscar's talents. You'll also see more of Oscar's companions, a talking monkey (voiced by Zach Braff) and a porcelain doll (voiced by Joey King), an appearance by the Munchkins and, at the very end, the entrance of the Wicked Witch.
(We also still like the fact that the Kansas scenes are in black and white and in the old 4:3 format, a la "The Wizard of Oz," before changing to wide-screen color in Oz.)
"Oz the Great and Powerful" opens in theaters on March 8, 2013.
What do you think of the new trailer? Does it look like the movie will do justice to the "Oz" legacy?
