Ja Rule in jail for tax evasion after serving illegal gun possession sentence
By Andrea Reiher
Worldwide rap star Ja Rule is in a New York City federal jail, reports the AP. The 36-year-old left a state prison last week, where he was serving a two-year sentence for illegal gun possession, and went straight into federal custody for tax evasion.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons says Ja Rule moved from a jail in upstate New York to Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, which houses prisoners who are awaiting court dates or who have short terms left on their sentences.
Ja Rule has admitted he failed to pay any taxes on the over $3 million he made between 2004 and 2006 while living in New Jersey. The rapper is expected to be released July 28.
