First let me say that this post is meant for discussion and opinions only.It is in NO way intended to cause DRAMA of any sort. Today,I spent a significant amount of time reading news articles about the war,the bombings in Isreal and Lebanon,The weak Dollar,The Oil Crisis hence our OUTRAGEOUS fuel prices, and basically what is described as the precursor to americas economic downfall. So then I got to thinking...what does being american mean to me??What are the pros and cons??How do others feel about it?? So I decided to ask the greatest  group of ladies on cafe mom:) Do you like where you are as an AMERICAN,or do you dislike being an american because of the issues that have slapped us in the face lately.I felt it was only fair that I post my answers as well so here goes.Hopefully you'll do the same:)
PRO'S
Being an American for me means freedom, choices, diversity.I feel priveledged to stand up and say"HELL YEAH I'm AMERICAN!!! AND DAMN PROUD OF IT!! I happen to come from a long line of rednecks and love EVERY bit of it! I'm corn fed and proud....lol.America offers the best of the best when it comes to education. And This is the big one.....ONLY IN AMERICA is there a TEXAS:)Texan and proud ya'll:)

CON'S
Sometimes I question peoples freedom, and wonder if the Gov't is taking it all away. You know in bit's and pieces......I'm so proud of being corn fed but cant afford the corn anymore..lol...seriously though and to get a descent education in america, you most certainly have to pay out the ass for it.I don't feel as if we as americans have as much say in it as people think.I feel meek and voiceless in a huge country and am almost scared these days because americans easily become targets..ie...Iraq,etc.

Now it's your turn ladies....spill it:) Oh and thanks for taking the time to read this!

So we can say "hell yeah" we are proud but we can show ourselves? Funny...I clicked "Hell yeah" because I am God damn proud to be an American. With the economy and government aside, yeah they are both in a bind right now but you know, look at other countries. We are still doing better, we are just so used to a certain way of life. Anyway, I am proud to be American and there is nothing that will change that. My family came her seeking the freedoms and diversity we have. They faught in wars and some gave their all. I have seen America at it's best and worst and honestly, even at our worst, I still wouldn't leave. I am not ashamed of where I come from, nor am I ashamed that I am ethnically mixed. I may be Euro-Caribbean but I am American first.

....I'm a proud history loving, cat having, video game playing, comic book reading geek. Maybe I am too smart to talk to you.

Pros: That I wasnt born in a third world country, and that I have the obtions and resources to become whatever I choose, and that it is easy to be a prosperous person with some hard work.

Cons: That so many people dont educate themselves on the constition and the rights that we have OVER our government, which has allowed them to brainwash, overtax, and make our lives to where we are feeding corperations, whom are pocketing congress.. its a sad cycle that no one seems to see. I hate that when I travel, we are known as greedy Americans, and that so many of us are too arrogant to see so. We no longer have the freedom that everyone is so patriotic about..

i said hell no b.c i just see america going down hill.im not sure if you guys know this but canada is like america was 60 years ago.they have great education.its clean, they are given all th rights we do.i myself would love to move there i ust need to figure out how.it says the land of the free but what freedoms do we have left.the pursuit of happiniess what if someones happinies is smoking pot cant do that.what if its selling their body you cant do that.what if its marrying someone of the same sex you cant do that.many things you cant do.but yet were the land of the free plus the way this country was"founded"it just erks me.

I first have to say that i am disgusted that your poll says anything But, HELL yes, and for all of those people, there is a plane that leaves every 5 mins, get on one!

Second, I LOVE being a American citizen simply because as a women I am able to sit here and type what i want when i want. My children can go to ANY school i want them to. I can VOTE, I can have as many children as i see fit for my family. I can choose to love a man or a women. FREEDOM!

Third It is ABSOFUCKINLUTLEY FAB that I live in a country that soooooooooooooooooooooo many people want in they risk their lives everyday to do it, legal or not!

GOD BLESS THE USA!  FREEDOM!  DEMOCRACY! I LOVE MY COUNTRY I LOVE MY COUNTRY I LOVE MY COUNTRY!

I'm proud to be an American. I am not always proud of our government or the decisions our country makes, but it's my country and I will support it because it is my home, my shelter, my freedom. I may write letters to my congressmen and president about our war, but I will thank the soldiers that fought that war every single time I get the chance. I may bitch about the economy, but I am grateful that I have the freedom to complain, move, find different work if necessary and hope that it will get better, which many millions of people in foriegn lands don't have. I have pride in my country because to not have pride in it, to not support it, to not love it would be self loathing, how can I as an AMERICAN not love my homeland? I know our history, I know the atrocities commited in, by and for our nation, I also know the spirit, the fortitude and the heart and soul and goodness that went hand in hand with the bad. I accept it for what it is and maintain hope and faith that it will get better and better as we learn to accept and love our diversity. I am an American, and I wouldn't change that for anything.
