Some little girl heard crying in a bush on the southside of Syracuse NY. it was a newborn baby that somebody had left there. The umbilical cord was still attached.

Why would somebody do that? You could leave the baby legally in safe places (like a fire station, hospital, or i think a church) yet some disgusting woman left her baby in a bush?

As far as I know, the baby is alive and in stable condition at a hospital. When I can find an article on it, I will repost with it

Syracuse, New York (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse police continue searching for the mother who abandoned a newborn baby in some bushes along the 1500 block of South Avenue early Thursday evening.

A six-year-old girl and her grandmother were playing hide-and-seek near a vacant lot when the little girl made the discovery.  She told her grandmother she found a doll.  When the grandmother realized the doll was really a baby, police were called.

The baby's umbilical cord was still attached and it's estimated the baby was less than an hour old.

“There are safe places that people can leave a baby,” says Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan. “Leaving the baby in the bushes like that – if the baby hadn’t been found, it probably wouldn’t have survived for long.”

The baby is in good condition at Crouse Hospital, but police say there was no need to put the baby's life in jeopardy. Police say the baby's mother will likely face charges.

Here is the article i found from a local news station

who knows maybe she is all drugged out...an no i'm not making excusses for her. I think it's sick and twisted and the baby will probably be better off without her.

No matter how many times I hear this kind of stuff, It still amazes me how some mothers could do something so barbaric.  I love all my girls and have asked God many times to protect them and then I hear stories like these.  So sad.  Glad to hear the little baby will be ok though.

how sick...that poor little baby. I hope someone amazing is able to take her in. I'd drive there myself if I could and take her! UGH it makes me SO mad. What the hell is wrong with people? I hope through DNA or something they find the mother and press charges. I am SO glad someone found that baby!

Syracuse girl finds newborn under bush

Thelma Williams (center) found the newborn baby with her granddaughter. She is pictured here with her daughter, Precious Williams (left) and friend, Tamique Trapps (right), 16, at the Williamses home on South Avenue in Syracuse.

Syracuse, NY -- A 6-year-old girl playing hide-and-seek with her grandmother this evening found a newborn baby on Syracuse's South Side.

The baby girl, her umbilical cord still attached, was lying under some bushes where Lilliana Williams-Rodriguez went to hide, said the little girl's grandmother, Thelma Williams. The infant was partially wrapped in a black shirt, with most of her torso exposed, Williams said.

The baby was discovered about 6:15 p.m.; it was estimated that was she born less than an hour before the little girl found her in a vacant lot adjacent to 1543 South Ave, said Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan. The temperature in Syracuse was 71 degrees at 6 p.m, according to the National Weather Service.

Thelma Williams was waiting in the house for Lilliana to hide. The little girl had grabbed her father, Dion Williams, off the porch and said she had found a doll in the bushes, Thelma Williams said.

Thelma Williams ran behind a basketball hoop and saw the baby lying motionless, she said.

Lilliana started at the newborn, her grandmother said. "Look at the doll," the girl repeated.

Thelma Williams, 55, who has six children, knew right away it wasnt a doll. She called 911.

Her daughter, Precious Williams, tried to soothe the baby. Her friend, Tamique Trapps, 16, picked the baby up and cradled her. The baby started to cry.

"It was tiny," Trapps said. "It was beautiful."

Thelma Williams got a white dress to cover the baby. She kept watch until firefighters arrived and took the baby to University Hospital.

The baby had a fever but was expected to survive, Connellan said. He didn't know if the baby was born there or brought to that location.

Former State Sen. Nancy Larraine Hoffmann, R-Fabius, authored the law allowing mothers of unwanted babies to deliver the infants anonymously into safe hands. Under the Abandoned Infant Protection Act, parents unable to care for their newborns can leave the infant no questions asked with a responsible person at a hospital, police station, fire station, or with a responsible person at another safe location to that list.

A parent who abandons a child can be charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, Connellan said.

Anyone with information about the baby can call police confidentially at 442-5222.

Little Lilliana was coloring on the porch when she had the idea to play hide-and-seek.

Thelma Williams said it was lucky her family was playing in the area when the baby was abandoned. She called the tiny girl a diamond in the rough.

"It was a game of hide-and-go-seek that turned into a day of reckoning," she said.

it never fails to make me cry when i hear about something like this, so sad and so unnecessary, when will these women learn that they can drop the baby off anywhere? i would have sooner left the baby on someones porch rather than in a bush for it to die. of course i would never abandon my child but for those that do i still will never understand when they have so manyoptions, w no questions asked basis so sad

It makes me cry too. I can't believe that some woman would do that after carrying that poor baby within her for so long. Feeling it move, knowing it was there.... I couldn't imagine.

You never know what was going through that mother's mind, I know there are places to leave a baby, but maybe she suffers from anxiety, for me it is so hard to even order food I would never be able to give my child away, although, I never even think about putting my babys up for adoption or giving them away.  Maybe she was in an abusive home?  Maybe the baby was a product of rape?  You never know, I am just happy she was found.
