LULEA, Sweden, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A Swedish father said the photographer hired to take pictures for his 3-year-old daughter's preschool digitally removed her scar without permission.

Per Engman of Lulea said Thords foto altered the preschool class photo to remove a scar from the nose of his daughter, Meja Flymalm, The Local reported Friday.

"It's just not right, it's a sign that people refuse to accept the world as it is and all these problems associated with idealized beauty just seem wrong," Engman said. "They assume that parents don't want scars, but I do. The scar is a part of who she is."

Engman said the photographers hired by the school also altered his daughter's picture without permission last year to remove a red spot from her cheek that she incurred from a fall the previous evening.

Thord Larsson of Thords foto apologized for the incident, saying pictures are usually only altered with the permission of parents.

"There are a lot of parents who are happy when marks which may have shown up from a scratch that morning are made to disappear, and the same goes for runny noses," he said. "We just want things to be nice and cute."

I think he has a point, although the photographer was probably trying to be nice. What do you think?

  • yeah, the retouching thing is outta control....but i see how they just probably just wanted to give him a nice product...lord knows some of the pics ive gotten back from preschool are ruined because her face was dirty, runny nose, etc.....but i see the dads POV too.

  • He absolutely has a right...

I don't think he is wrong.

To the photographers own admission...it isn't suppose to be done without permission.

  • I think people get pissed off over every little thing to quickly now a days. The photographer was trying to do a nice thing. The father needs to get over it. Its not a big deal. People are just too touchy. Its really not a big deal.

  • My youngest son came home from school the day before his kindergarten picture day with  a huge black eye.  But instead of having it altered or retouched I switched outfts I put him in  a Tapout  shirt that said "Knockout"  and underneath said "protect your hide" lol   It came  back  really original and its a keeper.

  •  I dont see anything wrong with it.  People look for reasons to get offended.

  • It wasn't a scar, it happened the night before.  I can see if its something she would have forever...like she had had surgery and it was a part of who she is, but from a fall comeon

My son ran into the monkey bars, has a welt and its purple and green and yellow...his pictures were Friday.  I HOPE the retouch his pics otherwise we have to retake them.

If it was something permanent I'd be pissed but a sotre some on...I had a mole on my cheek, it was removed all the time and made me angry..its permanent, but a sore...yeah no big deal

  • The father is right.  IF the parents wanted the child's photo altered they would have asked for it to be done.  The photographer overstepped his boundaries.

  • I think they should have asked before retouching the photo
