Try putting it in a corner and putting a baby gate around it.

My DD honestly never bothered with the tree when she was little like that. She sometimes likes to tap some of the lower ornaments, which I made sure were plastic and harmless, but she never did anything that would have taken the tree down. She just got used to it as being part of the house for a month.

Just keep an eye on your son, and pick him up and redirect his attention if he is getting too touchy with the tree.

We only decorate our tree from the middle up so that keeps them from getting ornaments. We also tie some fishing line (has worked for us but maybe something stronger) to the top of the tree and nail that to the wall or ceiling so they can't pull it over. HTH, good luck!!

I agree.  we did this with all three of ours and never had any problems.  now i just have to keep them out of the presents...lol

I have a daycare in my home, and rarely have a problem with kids messing with the tree.  But I do put my tree up without decorations for about a week, just to let them get used to it.  Then I put the decorations on, but I do leave the bottom 1/4 without anything.

We put ours up on a table and tied it to our huge solid wood entertainment series so that when my baby cousin who is just 11 months old comes he won't dump it over on himself.  I think DH also tied it to a hook in the corner just for good measure.

This reminds me of a funny story. One year my son was just learning to walk. And we had my parents old glass deco's. Well he decided to start taking them off the tree and throwing them on the floor. Well when I started picking them up and trying to get him he started walking real fast to the ones on the floor, sit on them, break them. I would get to him, he would get to the next one. He was giggling so much. I actually had to get SO out of the bedroom to help me get him. I was freaked out. I just kept thinking he could hurt himself. Thank god he was in a diaper. I guess he liked the sounds of them breaking under is diapered butt. lol Wasn't funny then. Its funny now.

I held my son in my arms and we both admired the tree together. I let him gently touch the branches and the bulbs and he got the message that the tree was a delicate item and not be touched without mommy. My two Bernese Mountain dogs were another story. More bulbs were broken that year from the big wagging tails. LOL! www.theplaydatekids.com
