Book Review????

Has anyone read the book "THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET"? My 16yr old son is supposed to read  it for his English class, and I have concerns due to subject matter and graphic nature. Thinking of having him recused from the assgmt. Just wondering what other moms thought.                                            PS IS THERE A WAY TO TURN OFF THE CAPS LOCK ON THIS?!?!
