ok i need SERIOUS help with this...

My husband and I decided to start trying to have a baby mid october, so i got off birthcontrol. Then i find out i have to have surgery to repair a hernia, my surgery was last thursday the 14th. i was in there for 3 days and they gave me lots of pain meds;anti nausea meds; and sleeping pills.  I just found out tonight that I'm pregnant.....i should be ecstatic but now im worried that this harmed the baby, does anyone know anything that can help?

You're best bet would be to call your doctor. If it was only for a couple days, probably not. But I can't say for sure. I would call them in the morning and talk to someone about it. Good luck and congratulations.

They didn't check to see if you were pregnant before they did the surgery?

I agree - they should have checked prior to surgery, but opiates will have no effect on your pregnancy. I was forced to take them while pregnant, and the reality is, painmeds are actually one of the safest drugs you can take while pregnant. Obviously, doctors don't want to prescribe them due to the addictive nature, but rest assured, I'm sure that your baby will be fine!

I am an ultrasound tech in a hospital setting and morphine is what they give to pregnant women in pain.  As far as I know that is the preferred pain med for pregnancy:)  You should be fine, find out what you were given and there is actually a website of safe/unsafe things while pregnant...look up teratogens during pregnancy. Good luck!

morophine is considered "safe", I know at least in the second trimester, I was on it.  But I would check about its effects in the first trimester

I had to have a cyst removed from an ovary when I was 15 weeks pregnant with my daughter.  They had me on morphine and something else that I don't remember now, but she's now a healthy beautiful 2 year old - so obviously it was fine.
Like another poster said, I would talk with your doctor about what drugs you specifically had, but I'm sure you and the baby will be fine!

I lost one that way. Emergency gall bladder removal in december of 98- nobody checked & I didnt think about it! After 3 days of meds & morphine, I miscarried at 11-13 weeks.

Don't sweat the petty stuff- and don't pet the sweaty stuff!
