Formula or Breast Feeding

Hi Ladies,

This is an opinion question, not a debate or arguement post.  I am curious to know your opinion.  Which do you think is better for your baby and why, breast feeding or formula?  I really don't want arguements here.  Just honest opinions.

I'm about to have my first child in May and have decided on breast feeding.  All of my siblings and I were breast feed and were always healthy.  We only got sick once a year and remained healthy for the rest of the year.  I've always believed that breast feeding, at least for the first few weeks is best because the baby the baby receives antiboties and innunities through breast feeding.  Of course breast feeding is only good for the baby if the mother takes proper care of herself and eats healthy the entire time she is breast feeding.  Also I don't agree with a child being 2 years old and still breast feeding.

I actually breast and bottle-fed all three of my kids...out of the two I certainly believe that breast is best which is why they got it for as long as I could provide it.

my opinion is what ever is safest for both mommy and baby. yes breast feeding usually is. but if you  had medical issues like me and had to take alot of meds. its not safe for baby. i had to take alot of heart meds. that baby would have gotten through my breast milk.  and if you plan on smoking or doing drugs after you deliever then bottle fed is best. that is just my opinion

I would think that most women would agree that breast is best, but it's not always possible for all moms for a variety of reasons.

I have given my son both from very early on.  I definitely think breast is best, but in my case I had to first supplement because of jaundice and breastmilk just didn't fix that.  Then after that, he didn't get enough breastmilk so I continued to supplement (after about a month of me not supplementing).  He is a very healthy little boy and now he mostly gets formula.  For us, it ended up being a better choice because he had all kinds of tummy issues and if I cut out certain foods, it didn't solve the problem.  So now he doesn't have the tummy problems so much and he's getting the nutrition he needs.  I breastfeed him about 2x a day - first feed of the morning and usually once at night.

Breast feeding is the best for a normal and ideal situation. I pumped for the first 2.5-3 months but then switched to formula. I have a friend that formula feed from the begining. To each their own. It doesn't affect me. As long as the child is feed.

Breast feeding. I do not judge others for their choices. I was formula fed.

whatever you feel is best for YOUR baby is what's best.

i did formula feeding and my child has yet to get more then the common cold in 27 months

my best friend BF all 3 of her kids and in their first 2 years of life they had pnemonia, bronchitus, the flu, multiple ear infections, strep throat.

another friend of mine BF and her DS has been sick constantly, so on her 2nd time around she formula fed and her other DS has yet to get sick.

NO ONE should tell you what to do, you KNOW what is best for your DC
