My son Has had a few issues in School and I have had several meetings with the Teacher and the School Psychiatrist concerning him. I have told him he needs to be put back in a smaller sized class where he feels more convertible and he can learn better in there but they do not seem to be listening!! So today he was put out in the hall for not doing his work and he decided to walk home we live about a mile and a half from the school they did not call me until he was almost home to tell me he was missing.. I am so mad! anything could have happened to him!! My Husband seems to think I am overreacting please tell me what you think.
I went to talk to the principal to tell him the situation and we are having a meeting with the teacher but needless to say I am not sending him back until things change.

I would ream out the school for allowing him to actually leave the building, and then I would talk to your son about why he can't be doing stuff like that. Glad he made it home alright!

well,,,your 7 year old does need to be spoken to,,,, that is young!!!! you are right, anything could happen,,, but i have told my 11 year old to come home if something happens, she broke her arm, and the school would not let her call me or come home, she cried all day,,, so i said next time, you LEAVE, i will deal with the school,,,,,, but in you case,,,, too young!!!!
OH MY GOSH! I am so glad that nothing awful happened to him on his walk home, I absolutely would not send him back until they FIX what is obviously broken. He obviously needs to be in a special needs centered class room, not necessarily the "special ed" classes, but a classroom that is fit for his needs. Obviously, you should tell him NOT to leave the school again, because it's dangerous.. but the school has a loooooot of making up to do!
They probably didn't call because the teacher probably didn't notice for a while. I don't like when kids are sent to the hall cause they can get into alot of stuff and apparently just decide to walk home. I'm not sure what to say, but I'm sorry you had to experience this.
Well, I for one am impressed he knew his way home!
I don't know, seems like something my 7 year old would do. I'm homeschooling my kids though.
I think your husband is under-reacting. At any age I would be livid, but at 7!!! I shudder to think of the "what ifs"...
ETA: After more thought, I think I would also be angry with my son for walking out. He should have gone to the office and called you.
I remember going in the hall before as many kids did when I was in school. None left the school. I have no answer. I would ask him why he left and he would be punished but I am an old school Mom.
