I dont know what to do. we are finally on our way out of debt land and I am so excited but i dont want to be a bartender for the rest of my life. I really would love to get back at working toward my nursing degree, but i am so torn. I dont want debt so do i tough it out and take a class or 2 per semester and just pay it out right or do i take out the loans or just forget it and keep on bartending. oh how i hate being a confused mama. I know it will be tough to push my kids into going to college if ive never completed it myself......ugh what to do, what to do!!
Well while getting your pre-reqs its not a problem to take two or so classes per semster. However, at many schools your sciences will expire after a certain amount of time (some say 5yrs and some say 10yrs) and once you get into the actual nursing program, most schools will not allow you to attend on a part-time basis.
My advice would be to look into financial aid http://www.fasfa.gov/ I believe is the website as well as scholarships and tuition assistance through the school directly. Have you considered going for your LVN/LPN and then working part-time while your finish your RN? That could be an option for you as well.
I was in school until i had my second and couldnt find daycare we could afford. so what really irks me know is most of the classes i already took i have to start over with. so Im planning on taking my Nursing Assistant class and certification this January so at least its a start. with the fafsa i do get financial aid but it will most likely be in loan form like before. so im stuck in do i really want to take out loans again or just try to pay it off. we pay in a lot for taxes and with 4 kids tend to get a chunk back so maybe ill try to save and use part of that each year. oh who knows......nothing like adding more stress!!
