I have to have a cyst removed from my left ovary. it wasnt hurting before but it hurts like hell today and yesterday. I called my DR and they said theyd get right back yesterday and didnt, called back early today same problem, no reply again. Anyone have a torsion of the ovary before? Can you tell me if that is what this pain is? I do not want to go to the ER and have surgery tonight if I don't have to, or if I am over reacting or something but I also do not want to lose an ovary. Anyone go thru this before?

i had a cyst removed in august last year.....  it was on my right ovary and was 6cms.  surgery was simple... hardly any pain.

my was hurting every once in a while (more so during intercourse) so i decided to have it removed.

however, i have heard if the cyst ruptures, it can be very painful....

I had 1 removed back in 03 it was 7cm. I didn't know I had it till I went in for my yearly exam. I have had some rupture (my mom has as well) & that has had me doubled over in pain. I've called/gone in because I didn't know the cyst had ruptured & I was concerned. All they did was an u/s &  confirmed liguid on tissue/muscle which is very painful. If it hurts that bad getting checked out, might not be a bad idea. They don't always do surgery...depends on the size &  a few other things. With mine it was 7cm filled w/ blood so they gave me 3 options 1) surgery 2) wait till i got my next period to see if that helped the size 3) go on b/c to see if that would shrink it. I opted for the surgery.

according the the mayo clinic website torsion is when it twists and it's horrible pain and vomiting and if you have both of those then go into the er because it says you would need emergency surgery.

I had a cyct removed from my ovary last week and it was the size of a tennis ball and he didn't have to removed the ovary. He cut a slit in the ovary, then peeled the ovary over the cyst, pulled the cyst out, then sewed the slit back closed. the surgery went well, my only complication was alergic reaction to the drugs and pneumonia. As for the surgery though? that went great.

rupturing ovarian cysts do hurt like hell. It doesn't necessarily mean it's torsion. I had one with torsion and the pain was so bad I turned green, was vomiting and couldn't stand up. This is from a woman who gives birth to 10lb babies with no pain relief.......If the pain is manageable with drugs and heat packs you are probably ok.

I had a 6 inch cyst on my left ovary when I was pregnant with my first son. It was really painful, and I was only about 5 weeks along. They thought that he was ectopic and I was admitted so they could watch me and monitor it.

I was told it may rupture during the pregnancy and they would remove it during a laparoscopy after my baby was born. I have endometriosis and have those regularly anyway. My son ended up with a prolapsed cord and was an emergency c section so they just removed it then.

Mine was very painful, and I had a small lump there that could be felt when I laid on my back. Mine was much bigger than usual though. Good luck.

I had 2 golf ball sized cysts on both ovaries and had to have surgery. Sure i hurt afterwards, but it wasnt horrible pain. But then again i was in TONS of pain before the surgery. If you go to the ER, doesnt mean a trip back intothe OR again. They can do and US and look. But did they not give you any pain meds ??? Or have you tried taking anything for it ??

I had a cyst the size of a small orange removed.  My DR didn't have to take the ovary totally out- but he did what was called a wedge reduction.  He cut it up and put an eighth of the ovary back in.  Just be careful afterwards- I ended up with a blood clot inmy lung and was hospitalized for 2 weeks for that.  Good luck!
