BARTOW, Florida — Authorities say a 55-year-old woman died alone in a bedroom of her central Florida home after locking herself in the room for several weeks for a lengthy religious fast.
Evelyn Boyd told her husband, a preacher at a Pentecostal church in the city of Bartow, not to disturb her when she locked herself in the room Feb. 7 to fast and pray with only water to drink. Family members forced open the door March 5 and found her dead.
Sheriff Grady Judd told the St. Petersburg Times that deputies don't expect to file charges, though the investigation continues. A precise cause of death has not been determined.
The woman's husband, John Boyd, told the paper he didn't check on his wife because she felt she was doing what God called her to do and he wanted to respect her privacy.
something is wrong here. I think they will find there is more to this
So.. they left her in the room alone without food for a month?
Hmm.. sounds a little suspicious.
I think something else is going on here. I don't know anyone who fasts for a month and only drinks water, they are usually allowed to have certain foods. You would think her husband would have checked on her before that.
Leave me alone without food for a month and i'll eat my way thru the door.
No way did this lady starve without help....
Yea, it's not good to fast for over a month. Jesus did it for 40 days, but that's Jesus, lol. You have to eat SOMETHING or do the Daniel fast.
This lady may have really done this, but took it too far. I don't see how she could let herself go to the point of dying though.
