Chickens

Ok, so if I'm moving to a small town that doesn't allow me to keep some chickens in my yard for eggs, but I want to keep chickens in my yard for eggs, isn't that wrong? How are they able to do that? It's MY yard?!?!? I don't like that. Should I fight it?

We are not zoned for chickens but I did find out that if those chickens are part of a 4_H club they have to be allowed....

LOL no it's not wrong.  In many areas chickens are considered livestock and many cities/towns do not allow livestock within city limits.   It's very common, not something worth fighting.  One of the many reasons we live in the county ;)

I wonder if your neighbors would say anything...

alot of towns and cities don't allow that within city limits. If you wanted to fight it I guess the best course of action is to get signed statements from your neighbors saying they don't mind if you have chickens. (if you have close neighbors) LOL But I have no idea how to go about that. Why not try to find a home outside city limits though?

The best thing to do is to get a home outside city limits and make sure there are no zoning laws against having chickens where you do decide you want to move.

Sorry, but if I lived in an area not zoned for livestock, I absolutely would complain about chickens.  Chickens in a yard is one thing, but generally you also have a rooster, and those things are $%^&ing obnoxious.

it can't be fought. It's a zoning thing.  If you want chickens move somewhere that allows chickens.

If you own propety in a city you have to abide by the laws of that city regardless of whether you own the property or not.  That's part of being a grown up, being able to accept and live by the laws whether you think they are fair or not.  If you have a major problem with it, start up a peitition in your city to change the law, or get elected into office where you can change the laws.

I live in a small TX town and even here in the population of 512 it is not allowed. I had one neighbor that literally got some guinie fowls and let the stupid things loose. I was ready to kill her. My husband worked nights and they would get in our yard every damn morning making noise and fighting with our cats.  I bought a pellet gun and started shooting at them in their little butts and those things stayed clear of our house after that.  But yeah I complained to the city. My uncle the mayor litterally said well ya wanna borrow a gun? LOL  you will be wasting your time fighting if you do I believe!
