For those against "Obamacare"

Some of you seem super invested and well-read about this issue, so I figured there might be some interesting answers to the following question:

If Obamacare will not work, what will?  What is the solution to the health care crisis in the US?

Im sad to say this.. Obamacare will never never pass.. the gop is "payed" by the big insurance companies, and as long as that goes on, Obamacare will just be a floating idea/hope

I don't know what the solution will be, but I do know that FORCING my hubby to pay for insurance when he doesn;t EVER go to the doctor and we can't afford to feed ourselves as it is is not the answer.

Not to mention, once he gets the insurance, he will have to legally get it for his son, as he pays child support, so go ahead and add that...even though she makes more money than him.  He gets reminded of this WEEKLY when the child support office sends him a ltter remining him.

I don't care WHAT it funds.  If it were OPTIONAL, I would be all for it, I think..but as it stands, I don't like the idea for the reasons I gave.  What am I supposed to do when our take home pay is even less because we have to pay for this crap we don't need?

I think this is a great question. Our health care system is majorly broken. The only people it's really working for are the people on a medical card. I'm not saying anything bad about the medical card!!!!

Hopefully this won't turn into another post about what's wrong with "Obamacare".... the point of this post is to see what OTHER option people may have in mind.   It's already well known on this board that people are against Obama's plan and the why's have been listed ad nauseum.

YOu know, I am on disability, and because of this, I have a medicaid card.

I have only 12 visits a year, including emergencies.  If the PCP deams it not enough of an emergency, I pay for it out of poket and the card doesn't.  If I need to see the doctor more than 12 times a year, I pay for it.

I do not get to see specialists, many ob/gyns, dentists, get physical therapy, see an eye doctor, or get my glasses taken care of with the medicaid card.

I get a co pay with my precriptions, and only five in a month.  If it goes over that five, I have t pay fo rit out of pocket.

Since I take narcotic pain meds, I have to go to the doctor once a month to pick them up, as they cannot fax them in.  This uses up EACH of my visits. I had gotten yeast infection repeatedly over a 6 month span...after missing my appointment and getting a referral to an ob/gyn who had a full office and made me wait three hours to get seen, I found out that I had pus in my urine, I had it so badly, and that I was having insulin issues.

I am sorry that you think that people on Medicaid have it easy, but they don't...and Medicare is even worse.

I am legally blind and need new glasses and can't get them because I cannot afford to pay for the exam or the glasses.  I have not been to the dentist since I was in high school, and have seen an OB/GYB ONCE in my life.

I wish it was as easy as you thought.

Thing is, even if they take out the abortion clause, I don't want the government involved in my health-care decisions.  I don't want them determining if my doctor says I need a treatment or procedure whether it's "cost effective" or "necessary."  They've already proven they do a lousy job by how they've screwed up Medicare and Medicaid.

I'm not saying there doesn't have to be some kind of reform, and to be honest, I don't know what would work.  What I do know is the plan they're proposing isn't going to work.  They're not giving free health-care to those in need, as some people seem to think, they're going to force everyone to purchase health insurance whether they can afford it or not.   They're not promising it's going to be less expensive.  They're hoping it will drive costs down due to lack of competition.  I haven't even heard any promises that insurance companies won't still be able to deny coverage based on pre-existing health concerns.  I still haven't heard how they plan to pay for it.  Other than they're cutting several programs which will negatively affect a lot of people.

We don't know for sure what the bill contains because no one has been allowed to review it.  There have been a lot of behind closed door deals and Pelosi's last statement, that "You'll just have to wait and see, as it unfolds..." was the most ignorant statement I've ever heard a politician say.  I swear, every word that comes out of that woman's mouth lately is dumb and dumber.

Remember, though, there are a great many people who don't get even ONE paid for doctor's visit per year, much less 12.  You may not have all the bennies of someone on full insurance, but you do have it better than a lot of people.

I'm not saying anything bad about people on medical assistance - I wish I qualified, I don't have insurance for myself at ALL and I have a chronic medical condition that has put my family in so much debt we'll NEVER dig out of it.  I wouldn't complain about being on a medical card.  I'd love to have 12 visits paid for.
