Have you ever had a tooth pulled?

Yesterday morning one of my molars cracked right in half... been on the phone with dentists ever since to compare prices, etc, and it sounds like the cheapest route will be extraction.

So... has anyone ever had a tooth yanked?  Any horror stories you want to share?  Any advice for me?  (I'm terrified of dentists, lol... and beyond that, the whole thought of other people's fingers in my mouth makes my skin crawl.  I'd rather have a pelvic exam than a dental exam).

Yep.  I've had five, all of my wisdom teeth and the bottom left molar just in front of the wisdom tooth.  My wisdom tooth had literally come in side ways and was grinding into the molar in front of it and no amount of flossing would take care of that decay, so we just removed the issue.  It's not so bad so long as you keep up on your pain meds for the first 24 to 48 hours.  I mean it!!!  Flipping HURTS if you don't.

YES! My molar cracked after it had had a filling put in. I went back to the dentist to complain and he wanted to me to spend $1100 to fix it! So I suffered forever before calling another dentist and said YANK IT OUT! The pain had gotten so bad that I'd rather have been in labor. By the time I went I had an exposed nerve. When he took that tooth out it was the biggest relief EVER.

Get that damn tooth out! I PROMISE you will be grateful to me for encouraging you...you'll never miss that molar. Take something to relax you before you go, if you are that nervous. They'll numb it to death...you'll here cracking in your head which is a little weird and of course he'll beon top of you with the pliers moving them back and forth...just keep your eyes closed.

I was so grateful to my dentist, I wanted to kiss him and take him out to dinner.

LOL....

Yeah, my deal is more expense than anything.... I can't afford a cap or fixing, but I can swing a good pullin'.  I just have to muster up the courage.  I have an appt. on Monday morning and that happens to be the start of my "weekend" as far as work goes, so I can wallow in pain at home in private instead of trying to look happy for customers, LOL.

Oh man!  That's nothing compared to the constant teeth grinding I do at night.  DH has told me that I sound like I'm chewing rocks.  My teeth are worn down nearly flat, indeed the flattest my dentist has ever seen in his 30 years of dentistry.  I've got TMJ so bad that my jaw pops out whenever I open my mouth too wide.  Poor DH about flipped out the first time he saw it happen!  lol  Going to have to go in for reconstructive surgery in the next 5 years or so or I won't be able to chew anymore.

Yep.  Four wisdom teeth.  They were all growing sideways.  They were painful, but I waited, then I got an infection, then my whole jaw got infected and I could not open my mouth, then I got the infection down my throat...I was risking sepsis, so the dentists pulled them for me for like 50 bucks because my Medicaid does not cover dentistry and I had no money for the huge amount I would have to pay.

Bad thing was, for that amount, I could NOT be put under, and the gas makes me vomit, so while I am deathly afraid of needles, I had to be wide awake...I kept having panic attacks in the middle of the operation....they were cut out.

**As a teen, I had a few teeth pulled to create space.  That wasn't so bad.

HUbby needed a couple root canals, and instead had them pulled, because it was cheaper, wide awake, just the shots, no biggy.

My dad on the other hand is an ex addict, and will not take any pain meds as he is scared to death he will start up again.. He has pulled many teeth, at home and at the dentist with no medication.

I've had a tooth pulled.  Its really not that bad.  They just numb it up really well and then extract it.  They gave me good pain meds and sent me on my way.  You won't be up to eating solids for a few days, so stock up on jello, pudding, ice cream, etc. before you have it done.  Also, be sure to have somebody else drive you, if at all possible, and if you work, have a day or two off afterward to recuperate.
I won't share my brother's horror story b/c his situation is completely different and is the result of drug abuse.

Yes I had a wisdom tooth pulled in December. It was painless and a great experience. Finished up my christmas shopping afterwards and drove the hour + back home.
