does anyone know anything about MN child support laws? not Wisconsin, not Iowa, not North Dakota, Minnesota.

I'm curious if my daughter's dad terminates his parental rights would he still be obligated to pay child support?

I can't find anything online that helps me with this and it's to late to call the child support office so here I am!

Our family is little and broken, but still good.

I got this...

Termination of Parental Rights
Termination of parental rights means that the legal relationship between a child and the child's biological or adoptive parents stops. The parent whose parental rights have been terminated has no ongoing rights, privileges, duties, or obligations to the child. However, if support arrears are owed for the time period before the parental rights were terminated, the parent whose parental rights were terminated may be required to pay the arrears in full.

so if he still owes child support payments he'd have to pay them but wouldn't have to for future payments? Am I understanding that right?
Thank you so much jillbailey26 you freaking rock for finding this for me!!

Well you would think that it would work that way. But I know that my SS's BM had 2 of her baby daddies terminate there rights and they are still paying. She is on welfare, so I guess the county went after them or something. I don't know. I think it's really odd. But she gets almost 1000 in support between her 4 kids. But if she has someone adopt her kids then the support would stop.

He may have to pay them.  It's probably left up to the court.  Yes, he wouldn't accumulate more arrearages, he would just have to pay what he owes while he was responsible and the "father."

You are most welcome. :)

It may be owed or they may be paying instead of her receiving cash assistance.

I know that in some states if you terminate your rights you still have to pay child support, what state was she in?

They can still be made to pay, unless the children are adopted by another man.
