The welfare line

Haha, ok I lived in Philadelphia my whole life (well until 2 1/2 yrs ago). My mom just sent me a picture of the welfare line from the 80's. The office was around the corner from our house, I was around 8 so I had no idea why people were walking down the street with a block of cheese. In the picture the line goes for another block each way.

I remember seeing these types of lines as a kid! My mom always told me to not be rude, because I was staring...I don't think she realized I wasn't staring at them for being in line for cheese. I thought there was a parade coming or something, lol.

Egad, this is what the registry looked like last month when I went to renew my license.

Apparently you go a huge block of cheese along with money. The people in line are waiting to get into the office to get the money.
