what is child abuse?

If a parent does something they know to be detrimental to the health or well being of their child and does it all the time, does that define abuse?

I think most abusers are unaware of what abuse is. I can't imagine most parents think it's an okay thing to do.

I was thinking that too, not that it makes it okay, just that abusers don't say: O I am going to go abuse my kid today. They actually believe that what they are doing is okay

Well it isn't like you know it is abuse and you do it on purpose.  It is a vicious cycle and it is very hard to break especially if you have already been doing it and not realizing it was wrong until later.  It is still hard to break...
