Do you also have one and do you check up on what they're doing on there?

I do, LOL.

My 14yrs friends set her up... But the Conditions for all online web groups is i am given all the passwords and i am added.. I just made a second account for Facebook and had her remove my old on for my new one because it's my "work" one.. Meaning i have alot of Porn stars Gogo boys and writer friends.. I was tired to having to lock her out of everything going on.. So i made a new account.. one of her closest friends have Twitter and the rule there has been she can NOT have a Twitter until i made a new account because well my Twitter account is x-rated and i didnt want her on it yet... She knows why and i finally broke down the other day and made it.. I also have the desktops rigged that i can see everything thing typed and done i can seize control of it if i have too.. I can also track and record  each keystroke if i have too.. but over all she hasnt given me a reason to worry.. my 9yr has an account but he plays games only on it and his only friends are me daddy and grandma oh and his sister..

My 17 year old step-daughter has Facebook and two nights ago she let her mom hack off all her beautiful long blonde hair!  Yesterday, she conveniently went to a friend's house probably so she could have an extra day of smoke blown up her butt about how good it looked before we told her the truth.  It looks like someone stuck a whole bunch of gum in her hair and her mom cut it out.  It's very short...like boy short.  I was very sad and very mad.  Usually her mom gives her a great haircut but this time I really wonder what she was thinking.

If not for Facebook, I wouldn't yet know about her hair.  And actually, it's going to be very hard but I will keep my mouth shut about her hair.  She likes it and so there's no point to me telling her I don't unless I need to give her one more reason to hate me.

i dont know if this is good advice or not but my view on things like this with my kids is know what it is they are using use it myself before they use it.. I knew the pros and con of Facebook long before she wanted an account... its the same thing with music, TV,movies books whatever Most of the time i have heard it seen it or done it before she has.. So i know what i am talking about when i say no not yet or yes but with.... KWIM? I think if you are hyper aware and make the choices you think are bestest there is nothing to worry about... but that just me

I have full access. I set up the privacy settings. Our kids only have FB to keep up with their cousins and to play games.

the kids are adults now......so yes, they have them. but when they were kids, we didn't have internet. my thoughts.......if there is something that you feel you have to always watch like a hawk or be on guard about....if it has the potential to tun bad at the click of a button.....probably shouldn't let them be involved in it.

While I do agree with you on this about most things, I'd like to point out something that I'm surprised no one has mentioned. Facebook accounts are EASILY hacked into. (as well as myspace and all other social networking sites, including cafe mom. I know this because I used to hack for a living...it's one of the first steps to getting that type of job, to be able to hack simple stuff like fb) I'm not saying it's not okay for a kid to have a facebook, but anyone who allows their child to do so, needs to be aware of that risk. Someone hacking into your child's account could download all sorts of stuff (such as porn, that others will think your child sent or posted) or they can post things that can just ruin your kids reputation in other ways.
