Who makes the rules?

My oldest daughter turns 16 on Sunday. I had an 01 daewoo, and it was a good car, awesome on gas and we took it on many trips. My birthday was last month and my husband was talking about getting me a car. 2 weeks ago, he decided that I needed a new car so my dd could get a car for her birthday. So on Monday, he got a loan and we bought an 08 Malibu (super sweet car). I smoke and he chews and smokes cigars. He took "my" car to work today so he could get the oil changed and put plates on it. I was texting him while he was at work & he said he wasnt sure if he wanted me to smoke in my car cause it didn't have an ashtray in it. I told him that I could get an ashtray that plugs into one of the 12 volt plug ins, and it would be a smokeless ashtray. He was all, "well as long as you keep your cigarette over it..." So I buy the ashtray, and an airfreshner, and use it. I told him that I will vaccum it weekly and bought an anti-interior fog spray to put on all windows (which I used on my old car). Now he's freaking out cause he claims he told me I was not supposed to smoke in "MY" car & that I'm being selfish (he smoke cigars in his truck daily & refuses to let me smoke even with all windows open) for paying $15 bucks for a smoke sucking ashtray. My question is, am i being selfish for smoking in the car that he told me that he was buying for me? And I don't want any replies that tell me that I shouldn't be smoking or that smoking is gross, that's besides the point and I will skip over them and could care less, if youre going to b judgmental, shove it and keep it to yourself! My name is on the title first, and the car was purchased for me. I just want to know if anyone thinks that I should be able to do what I want to do in my car!

Lol, the daewoo or the Malibu? The thing I find funny is that he decided on his own to get the loan (I'm unemployed and going to school full time) and then let me pick out the car I wanted. I'm willing to bet if I like have gotten the 09 Kia rio5 at the same price he wouldn't be bitching! He's just pissed cause I got a nicer car than he has! But in my defense, I'm putting 2500 towards the loan after I get my taxes back.

Hubs quit smoking cigs in April 2002. Our youngest was born in June 2002. I smoked outside for 2 years, smokes in the basement for 6 months and decided that was good enough after seeing pics of my mom breast feeding with a beer in one hand, a smoke on the other and she was waiting for a peace pipe.

And ps, if I were to sell the daewoo, it would have been $800 obo. It's great on gas and rust proof, but a pain on the ass to find parts for.

I think you guys should use this as an opportunity to quit smoking. Tell him you'll quit and won't smoke in the car if he quits, too. Work together.. if not for yourself, do it for your daughter.

I say do what you want to do... and don't feel like you have to answer to him.... If he makes rules for you - then he should have to follow them as well (You can't have your cake and eat it too).

If it's your car then it's your car. Did you smoke in the other one??? If so, what's the difference other than its a different car? It just doesn't make sense unless it's just because it's new. But still...it's for you.
